LAYERTEC was founded in 1990 as a spin‑off from Friedrich Schiller University Jena. We specialize in manufacturing top‑quality optical components for laser applications across the wavelength range from the vacuum ultraviolet (130 nm) to the near‑infrared (up to approximately 7 µm). Since the early 1990s, our products have been widely used by industrial companies, universities, and research institutions around the world. Many major breakthroughs in laser technology in recent years have been made possible with the support of LAYERTEC products.

The company combines high‑precision optical fabrication with a variety of advanced coating systems – including magnetron sputtering, ion beam sputtering, thermal evaporation, and ion‑assisted electron‑beam evaporation. This unique combination of technologies allows us to maintain full control over the quality of optical components throughout the entire production process – from grinding, polishing, and cleaning, right through to the final coating.

Today, LAYERTEC employs over 400 people dedicated to precision optical manufacturing and operates 45 state‑of‑the‑art coating systems. Our diverse coating technologies enable us to cover the full spectral range from the vacuum ultraviolet to the near‑infrared, using both sputtering and evaporation processes, fluorides and oxides, dielectric and metallic materials. The varying production capacities of our equipment allow us to supply high‑volume batches to large customers at competitive prices, as well as to produce small‑batch custom components for research institutions and prototype devices for R&D projects.
