We manufacture high‑speed, high‑precision piezoelectric stages and capacitive sensors with picometer‑level resolution to meet the most demanding nanopositioning applications. We focus on customised solutions that demand high performance, high load capacity, and high speed – often in extremely harsh operating environments.

Queensgate was the first company to bring capacitive sensors to the high‑precision positioning market, launching a range of nanopositioning products for microscopy in 1985. Subsequently, we introduced digital control technology to enhance accuracy and stored calibration data on the motion stages themselves, enabling full interchangeability between stages and controllers. Continuous innovation has allowed our nanopositioning stages to operate at bandwidths exceeding 40% of their resonant frequency – which is 4 to 5 times faster than comparable systems.

In 2018, the company was acquired by Prior Scientific Instruments Ltd, a global leader in precision motion, automation, and the development of optical systems, subsystems, and components.

Today, Queensgate offers customised solutions to help customers tackle their most challenging applications – from verification testing of the latest semiconductor materials to rapid identification of emerging diseases and pathogens. Our engineering teams, based at our ISO 9001:2015‑certified manufacturing facilities in Cambridge and Paignton, work closely with customers to continuously develop innovative nanopositioning products that exceed expectations and push the boundaries of technology.
