Eblana Photonics specializes in the design and production of NIR and MIR laser diodes.

We enable our customers to solve problems in areas such as gas sensing, biosensing, LIDAR, and quantum optics. Our goal is to drive technological advancement by matching our expertise in laser design with challenging and diverse customer requirements, from research through to volume production.

Eblana Photonics originated from advanced photonics research programs involving leading Irish universities and research centers, including Trinity College Dublin and the National Microelectronics Research Centre (now the Tyndall National Institute).

The company was founded in 2001 by Dr. James O’Gorman and Professor John Hegarty, both of whom had conducted datacom laser research at Bell Labs (the R&D division of AT&T). Before founding the company, James managed the Optronics Ireland facility at Trinity College Dublin, while John was appointed Provost of Trinity.

Eblana was established with a shared desire to commercialize a scalable laser manufacturing technology capable of reducing the cost of high-performance single-frequency laser diodes for a wide range of mass-market applications.
